GIF with sound: add your music to a GIF
A GIF file cannot hold sound: the format has no place for it. What people share as a GIF with sound is a short video that loops. YouVideo makes exactly that from your GIF or clip, with your own music, right in your browser.
How to do it, step by step
- Open YouVideo and choose your GIF or your video.
- Choose Your own sound for the video, under the options, and pick a music or sound file (MP3, M4A, WAV).
- Set Video plays to 2, 3, 5 or 10 times if you want a longer loop: your sound plays in a loop to the end.
- Press Make video and download your MP4 with sound. Make GIF gives a silent GIF: a GIF has no sound.
Why it is different here
- Your sound replaces the sound of the clip, and stops where the picture ends.
- The video gets AAC sound inside an MP4 file.
- If your browser cannot write the sound, YouVideo tells you so and makes no silent file.
- Nothing is uploaded. Your file is read and converted by your own browser, on your phone or computer. It works even in airplane mode once the page has loaded.
- Free, no account. A tiny nodding giraffe signs your file in the corner; untick one box and there is no watermark at all.
- Works on iPhone, Android and computer, in the browser: no app to install.
Questions
Can a GIF have sound?
No. The GIF format stores pictures, not sound. To share an animation with sound, you share a short video instead: that is what YouVideo makes.
Can I use any song?
Use only sounds you have the right to use. You are responsible for what you share.
Is my sound uploaded?
No. Your sound and your video are read by your own browser, on your device, and are never sent anywhere.
