For a recording with sound, or of another app, use your phone's own screen recorder, then choose that video above. Here is how:
Record your screen on iPhone
1. Swipe down from the top right corner to open Control Center.
2. Tap the record button once (a dot inside a circle). Do not hold it.
3. After 3 seconds a red indicator appears at the top: everything on screen is being recorded, in any app.
4. Tap the red indicator, then Stop. The video is saved in Photos.
Nothing turns red? On recent iPhones, Control Center has several pages: swipe to the other pages to find the Screen Recording button. A button that offers to share or broadcast your screen to an app is a different one. No record button anywhere? Add it in Settings, Control Center, Screen Recording.
Filming from this page: black camera or no sound?
When you tap Choose a video, your phone can also offer to film. If the camera stays black, or the video has no sound, your browser is not allowed to use them, and the phone will not ask again on its own.
On iPhone: open Settings, scroll down to your browser (Chrome or Safari), then turn on Camera and Microphone. Come back here and film again.
On Android: open Settings, Apps, your browser, Permissions, then allow Camera and Microphone.
Record your screen on Android
1. Swipe down twice from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings.
2. Tap Screen record (you may need to swipe to find it, or add it with the edit pencil).
3. Choose whether to record sound, then tap Start.
4. Swipe down and tap Stop. The video is saved in your gallery.

Questions and answers
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. Your video is read and converted by your own browser, on your own device. Your video is never sent to us or to anyone else. You can check: let the page load, switch to airplane mode, and convert a video.
Which GIF engine does YouVideo use?
Our own. Gifrafe was written from scratch for YouVideo and runs entirely in your browser. Give it a size limit, under 10 MB for example: it makes the best GIF that fits, then weighs the real file to be sure. The 3D photo effect runs on our own engine too, with no AI service. To read and write video files we use Mediabunny, an open-source library.
How do I make a GIF from a video on iPhone or Android?
Open this page in your phone's browser, tap Choose a video, and pick a clip from your photo library. Trim it, tap Make GIF, then save the result. There is no app to install.
Can I record my iPhone screen from this website, without an app?
Yes, in Chrome on recent iPhones: tap Record screen or tab and allow the screen broadcast. Nothing to install. Two limits: the recording has no sound, and it stops if you leave the browser. For sound, tick Add microphone before you start, or use the iPhone's own screen recorder and then choose that video here.
GIF or MP4: which one should I pick?
A GIF loops by itself, has no sound, and plays almost everywhere, but the file is heavy. An MP4 looks sharper, can keep the sound, and is usually much smaller. For a short silent loop choose GIF; for anything longer choose MP4.
How do I compress a video to under 10 MB?
Choose your video, set Video quality to Fit under 10 MB, and press Make video. The page tries the normal quality first, then lowers the bitrate and, only if needed, the picture size, until the file is under the limit. Everything happens on your device.
How do I make a GIF under 10 MB (or 5 MB, or 2 MB)?
Set GIF size to Best GIF under 10 MB (or 2, 5, 8, 15 MB) and press Make GIF. The page tries the best settings first and makes the GIF lighter step by step, the quality first, then the width, then the frame rate, and weighs each real GIF until it fits. It then fills the size as closely as it can, so you keep the most detail. Everything happens on your device.
Can I add text, slow down, reverse or boomerang a video?
Yes. Type your caption in Text on top, pick a Speed from 0.25x to 4x, and choose Direction: normal, reverse or boomerang. It works for GIFs and for MP4 videos, and you can combine all of them with trimming and cropping.
Is it free? Is there a watermark?
YouVideo is free to use, with no sign-up. By default a tiny nodding giraffe and youvideo.net sit in the corner of your GIF or video. Untick Add youvideo.net in a corner and there is no watermark at all.
How long can my GIF be?
Up to 450 frames, which is 30 seconds at 15 frames per second. If your GIF is too heavy, shorten the clip, lower the width, or lower the frame rate.
Can I keep the sound?
A GIF never has sound. For a video, tick Keep sound in video to keep it, or untick it to make a silent MP4.
Which formats can I open?
MP4, MOV and WebM videos, including the videos recorded by iPhone and Android phones. The video file comes out as MP4, or as WebM on devices that cannot encode MP4.
